Today I had to go to the dental hygienist. Instead of going for my usual cuppa tea and cake afterwards, I chose halloumi fries. They were quite nice but a bit too salty for me. The funny thing is, I was told it’s good to have lots of salt for POTs to boost my blood pressure as it’s at the low end.
It’s funny because we often hear how bad it is to have too much salt in our diets, and yet there I was being advised to have a shot of OJ with a teaspoon of salt in twice a day! That, and to drink at least 2.5L water per day. To be honest I do struggle to drink a lot especially just plain water. It’s because I have gut issues; i.e. bloating. The NHS said it’s IBS. However, many years later I have found out it is in fact SIBO, which stands for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. It is treatable but the NHS hasn’t treated me. Nope! My herbalist who is also a functional medicine practitioner is helping me. More about this condition in another post.
